Understanding the Freight Claims Process

When freight is lost or damaged, shippers need a clear process for managing claims. A streamlined freight claims process helps protect your business, recover losses, and identify ongoing issues. At Translogistics, we manage freight claims for shippers, offering comprehensive support every step of the way.

Damaged Freight: Managing the Cargo Claims Process

When freight arrives or is refused for damage, we take immediate action to document and file a claim on your behalf. Our team helps collect all the necessary details, including photos and damage reports, to expedite the claim with the carrier. Translogistics works closely with carriers to ensure the claim gets fair attention and you receive any applicable reimbursements as quickly as possible.

We don’t just stop with a claim. Our process digs into the details to find the cause of damages. Whether it’s a specific carrier issue or a problem with certain lanes, we analyze the data to prevent repeated damage claims. If we find a consistent issue on a particular route or with a particular carrier, we can recommend exclusionary lanes to avoid future issues.

Lost Freight: Steps to Locate Missing Shipments

Lost Freight Process

Lost freight is frustrating, but it follows a standard process to maximize the chance of recovery. When a shipment goes missing, we immediately work with the carrier’s Operations, Service, and Documentation (OS&D) clerks. Here’s how the process works:

  • Dock and Trailer Search: First, the destination terminal searches its docks and trailers to locate the missing freight.
  • Expanded Search: If not located, the carrier sends a shipment All-Points Bulletin (APB) to all terminals involved in the shipment’s route.
  • Network-Wide Check: After three days, if the freight still hasn’t turned up, all terminals in the network are checked.

If a lost shipment isn’t located after thorough searching, Translogistics can escalate the freight claim process. If the carrier is unable to find the freight within five days, we take immediate action by filing a formal cargo claim on your behalf. This proactive approach helps ensure timely reimbursement and keeps the claim process moving forward efficiently. Our team monitors each step closely to minimize any further delays, so you can feel confident that every effort is being made to recover your shipment’s value.

This structured approach gives us the best chance of finding lost shipments, providing peace of mind for our shippers.

Data-Driven Insights to Prevent Future OS&D Issues

At Translogistics, managing a lost shipment claim or damaged cargo claim goes beyond just filing paperwork. We collect data on lost and damaged shipments to look for patterns or problem areas. Over time, this supply chain data can reveal if a specific lane, carrier, or handling practice leads to increased claims. By pinpointing these issues, we help shippers avoid problem areas, keep costs down, and streamline logistics.

If we find trends with certain carriers, we may add exclusionary lanes to keep your shipments safer. This proactive approach saves you time and money, protecting your cargo before issues arise.
