Achieve Savings on your Truckload RFP

Monique Campbell • Nov 18, 2022
With TLI we make logistics easy for you by handling your truckload RFP's from start to finish. To make the process fruitful and effective, there are 3 ways that helps shippers  yield efficiencies and savings in the RFP process.

1. Lane Consistency Supports Carrier Load Planning

Truckload Lanes with consistent demand patterns and predictable weekly load tenders experience better performance than lanes that are highly volatile. While the occasional tender rejection may occur from carriers due to unexpected equipment failure, if you can set your watch to the lane the carriers tend to plan around it. Inconsistent demand will see consistent routing guide failures as the freight may be better suited to go through TLI’s team focused on the spot market.

When planning a procurement event and developing a route guide, segment your lanes by the predictability of demand. Consider if flexibility is warranted to enable carriers to service the lane on the same day of the week for example. Lanes with heavy variability are harder for carriers to plan around in the dynamic logistics market.

2. Use the Right Tool for the Job

Pair your bidding tools and supply chain technology together to take a strategic bid approach. Through extracting the Truckload (TL) data from the Transportation Management System (TMS) group the equipment types together (Dry Van, Flatbed, Reefer) and then sort by frequency of lane. This data can then be ran through Translogistics’ truckload procurement tools to extract carrier options with competitive pricing.

Be consistent with your procurement, but also manage the truckload market conditions as well. If the market is exceptionally loose with capacity enable TLI to run some problem lanes against the carriers to drive down cost and increase operational performance with a new high-quality carrier.

In a tight market like 2021, securing capacity can be a challenge and if you are strictly focused on cost it may result in tender rejection. TLI is happy to support spot recovery scenarios along with farming additional carriers to ensure your freight delivers timely in any market condition.

 3. Data Science Paired plus Supply Chain Experts equates to a competitive Truckload RFP

If you were to say “the national average temperature is 52.7 °F” while it may be accurate that would not be very helpful for residents in Alaska nor Florida. Every market is unique and it is dynamic as housing starts impact the flatbed market just like produce season influences reefer rates. As a shipper you need to collaborate with experts who leverage technology to deliver consistency in service with competitive procurement solutions.
